Alabama Slammers News Release

PELHAM, AL -The Alabama Slammers announced today that the team will be providing a FREE hockey clinic for youths in the Birmingham area this Saturday from 1:00-3:00pm at the Pelham Civic Complex.

The FREE hockey clinic will provide youths in the area with an opportunity to learn the basics of ice hockey from Alabama Slammers Head Coach and former NHL Ironman Garry Unger. Some of the skills to be taught by Unger during the clinic include skating, passing, shooting, puck handling, and team sportsmanship.

"We are excited to be able to offer this clinic to our community," said Alabama Slammers Vice President Kevin Simpson. "Kids really enjoy participating with professional hockey players and coaches. This is a great opportunity for the Slammers to expose parents and kids to the recreational opportunities that the sport of hockey has to offer."

The Birmingham Youth Hockey League will also be holding a registration this Saturday from 11:00am-2:00pm at the Pelham Civic Complex. The Alabama Slammers are offering a FREE Season Pass to any youths that sign up for this season's youth hockey league. This pass will provide registered youths with free admission to any Alabama Slammers home game this season.

The afternoon will conclude with the 3rd Annual "Hockey For Charity" game featuring many former and present hockey celebrities including former Birmingham Bulls fan favorites Jerome "Stay Out of My Yard" Bechard, Craig Lutes, Hugo Belanger, Ian Hebert, Greg Dreveny, Mark Donahue, Rob Krauss, Tyler Johnson, Everett Caldwell, and Mark Loeding.
