Slammers Sign 3 More Players

PELHAM, Ala. – The Alabama Slammers of the World Hockey Association 2 has signed three more players for the 2003-04 season. Forward Ryan Prentice, defenseman Tim Donnelly, and goaltender Jamie Ronayne have all signed contracts with the team.

Entering his 5th year as a professional, Prentice joins the Slammers after playing the last two seasons with the Corpus Christi IceRays of the Central Hockey League (CHL). In 43 games last season, Jason recorded 9 goals, 20 assists and 56 penalty minutes with the IceRays.

Donnelly, a 6'3", 225 Pound native of Montreal, PQ brings an incredible physical presence to the Slammers defense this season. Tim played 66 games last season for the Anchorage Aces of the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) where he recorded 3 goals, 10 assists and 88 penalty minutes. Prior to joining the Aces, Donnelly played one season with the Tulsa Oilers under currant Slammers Head Coach Garry Unger.

"Tim will be a solid addition to the Slammers defense this season and will add toughness to the blueline," said Slammers Head Coach, Garry Unger. "A large player with skill is hard to come by," stated Coach Unger. "And that is exactly what Tim brings to the ice."

"I 'm looking forward to playing another season for Coach Unger," said Donnelly.. "I think we can definitely compete for a championship this season with the team that Coach is putting together."

The Slammers are also excited to announce the signing of goaltender Jamie Ronayne for the upcoming 2003-2004 season. A native of Bloomfield Hills, MI, Ronayne began his pro career is 1999 playing for the Tulsa Oilers under currant Slammers Head Coach Garry Unger. In 69 games for Tulsa, Jamie posted a 29-24-8 record.

"Jamie is an outstanding goaltender and a quality person," said Slammers Head Coach Garry Unger. "This gives us two quality goalies entering the season and I look for them to push each other to make us successful."

The Slammers now have 8 players signed for the 2003-2004 season and expect to add several more before the start of Training Camp.

The Slammers open the 2003 - 2004 campaign at home at the Pelham Civic Complex on Friday, November 7th against the Jacksonville Barracudas. The Slammers will also face the Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals in the inaugural season of the World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2). All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
