PELHAM, Ala. The Alabama Slammers announce today that applications are now being accepted for the Slammers 2003-04 Dance Team. A mandatory dance clinic will be held on Friday October 10th from 6:30-9:30 pm at American Gymnastics located at 500 Caldwell Trce. Auditions and interviews will take place on Saturday, October 11th at American Gymnastics starting at 10:00 am. Applications are available at the Alabama Slammers administrative office located in the Pelham Civic Complex.
"We are looking for a group of talented, energetic, athletic and personable women to join our inaugural dance team," said Kevin Simpson, Vice President of the Alabama Slammers. "Our dance team will add another element of entertainment during Slammers home games and will create plenty of enthusiasm and excitement in the crowd."
The Slammer Girls will perform dance routines in the stands while the game is not in play as well as on the ice during select Slammers home games. The Dance team will also participate in a wide range of game night contests and promotions.
In addition to performing at Slammers home games, the Slammers dance team will also participate in many community events and local charities during the 2003-04 season. "Just like our players become role models for the youth in the area, our dance team will also serve as role models for young girls in our community," says Simpson.
All interested individuals must register to be able to attend the mandatory dance clinic on Friday, October 10th at American Gymnastics. There is a $20 registration fee and all applicants must be 19 years of age or older and provide two recent photographs (one head shot and one full length).
There will be several elements judged upon during the tryout process including basic technical skills (splits, high kicks, dance moves, etc.). Ladies will be judged on showmanship, appearance, dance ability, and high kicks. Candidates will be taught a routine during the dance clinic that they will perform for the judges.
The Slammers open the 2003 - 2004 campaign at home at the Pelham Civic Complex on Friday, November 7th against the Jacksonville Barracudas.
