Slammers Fall To Trax In Scrimmage Game

November 2, 2003 - World Hockey Association-2 (WHA2)
Alabama Slammers News Release

PELHAM, Ala. –Ryan Rivard scored three times to power the Macon Trax to a 5-2 victory over the Alabama Slammers Sunday, in a WHA2 scrimmage game at the Pelham Civic Complex.

The first period was scoreless, but featured lots of hard-hitting, fast paced action. Macon had the better of the scoring opportunities in the opening period, but solid goaltending by the Slammers' Jamie Ronayne kept the game even at zero.

Rivard's first goal, coming on the power play at 9:12 of the second, put the Trax on the board first, but it took Alabama just under three minutes to tie the game. Jim Black's unassisted goal at 11:54 knotted the game 1-1, but Rivard struck again at 14:49, putting Macon up 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Rivard rounded out the hat trick 26 seconds into the 3rd period, upping the Trax lead to 3-1 early in the third. The Slammers got a power play goal at 8:07 from former Birmingham Bull Mark Donahue to trim the deficit to 3-2, but the home team could get no closer. Craig Miller scored for Macon at 9:26 and David Deeves scored on the power play at 15:30, giving the Trax the 5-2 win.

The Slammers open their regular season at the Pelham Civic Complex this Friday and Saturday, November 7th and 8th, when they host the Jacksonville Barracudas. Game time each night is 7:05pm.
