Bellingham Slam News Release

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Bellingham Slam used contributions from every player as they easily defeated the Sacramento Heatwave, 134-104, in an American Basketball Association contest at Whatcom Pavilion Tuesday night.

The Slam jetted to a big lead quickly, opening the game with a 28-4 run and holding the Heatwave scoreless for nearly five minutes midway through the quarter. The Slam ended the first quarter ahead 36-10, setting a new team record for fewest points allowed in a quarter. Sacramento was able to battle back somewhat in the second quarter, trimming the deficit by ten to trail 59-43 at halftime.

But Bellingham kept attacking in the second half, pushing the lead over twenty for good at the 8:16 mark of the third quarter on a Jacob Stevenson jumper. The Slam carried a 28 point lead, at 99-71, into the fourth quarter, and the two teams nearly matched each other for the final 12 minutes as Sacramento was never able to make a serious run at making it a close game.

The Slam, who for the first time this season enjoyed scoring contributions from every player in the lineup, were led by Michael Parker's 31 points. Three other Slam players scored at least 20 points, with Jacob Stevenson, Mike Jones, and Brandon Hartley scored 22, 21, and 20, respectively.

Sacramento was led in scoring by Edward Walden, who contributed a game-high 38 points, including eight three-pointers.

The Slam and Heatwave play in a re-match Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Whatcom Pavilion. Wednesday night's game will be "Lynden Night", with students and faculty from Lynden High School receiving $1 admission.
