Slam Hang On To Win Over Los Angeles

Bellingham Slam News Release

Bellingham, WA - Brandon Hartley scored 24 points, including 15 in the second half, as the Bellingham Slam defeated the Los Angeles Aftershock, 107-100, in a very physical American Basketball Association game Thursday night at Whatcom Pavilion.

Like their previous meeting on Tuesday, the Slam came out strong from the opening tip and were doubling-up the Aftershock, 24-12, after the first quarter. But unlike Tuesday's game, the Aftershock regouped and held tough and were only outscored by one in the second quarter for a 55-42 Slam advantage at halftime.

The Aftershock (11-14) got back within striking distance in the second half thanks to a dominating third quarter that saw them outscore the Slam 31-22, but exceptional performances in the fourth quarter by Hartley and Mike Bush, each with ten points in the quarter, ensured another Slam victory at the end of the night. The win was the Slam's fourth consecutive and evened the season series with Los Angeles at two wins apiece.

Los Angeles was led in scoring by Darwin Carter, who scored 34 points. ABA All-Star Will Burr, who was held scoreless on Tuesday night, added 19.

The Slam (16-11) were forced to play the game without reserve center T.J. Williams, who was unable to travel to the game due to an accident that snarled traffic and closed the freeway heading into Bellingham for several hours.

The Slam now get ready to face off against NBA All-Star Tim Hardaway and the Florida Pit Bulls on Sunday, February 19 and Tuesday, February 21. Tickets are going fast for both games and can be purchased in advance on the Slam's website at www.bellinghamslam.com.
