Skyrockets Land From Long Distance to Even CBA Finals
ALBANY, NY (March 25, 2008) - With a three-point shot at the buzzer by Ronnie Fields, the Minot Skyrockets evened the CBA Finals series at one game apiece with the Oklahoma Cavalry. Now the CBA Finals shifts to Minot, as the Skyrockets will now host games 3, 4, and if needed game 5. Game three will take place on Wednesday, March 26.
Game two started just like game one with the Skyrockets jumping out to a quick lead before the Cavalry managed to claw its way back into the game. Minot held a three point lead at the half, 50-47, but gave up the lead to go into the fourth quarter 76-75 to Oklahoma. Defense then ruled the day as Oklahoma made their last field goal with 6:14 remaining and scored its last point at the 5:49 mark. Minot chipped away at the lead and tied the score at 89 when Sidney Holmes converted one of two free throws with 57 seconds left in the game.
Daryan Selvy missed a jump shot with 40 seconds left but a steal by Curtis Haywood kept the ball in Oklahoma's possession. Adam Spanich then missed a three-pointer, but Shawn Daniels grabbed an offensive rebound only to miss the short put back. Minot grabbed the Daniels miss and called a time out with 1.4 seconds left in the game. Minot advanced the ball to right side of their offensive end looking to get off a shot to win the ball game. In a play that is similar to Christian Laettner in the NCAA Tournament, Fields inbounded the ball to Lee Scruggs who tipped the ball back to Fields who then hit a 35-foot jumper at the buzzer to capture the win for the Skyrockets.
Fields led all scorers with 30 points. Lee Scruggs had 19 points and Kevin Rice had 13 points for the Skyrockets. CBA Player of the Year Daryan Selvy had 19 points for Oklahoma. Curtis Haywood had 14 points and pulled down a game high 17 rebounds.
