Sussex Skyhawks News Release
In another series of moves, Skyhawks manager Hal Lanier traded pitcher Craig Snipp to the Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League in exchange for Pitcher Mike Schellinger. Snipp started 15 games last season, posting an 8-5 record with a 3.94 E.R.A. while striking out 57 opposing batters in 107.1 innings pitched.
In exchange for Snipp, the Skyhawks receive Mike Schellinger, a former member of the St. Louis Cardinals organization who appeared in 4 games for the 2005 New Jersey Cardinals. Schellinger moved up to the Cards Midwest League affiliate, the Swing of the Quad Cities, appearing in 33 games for the Swing, posting a 6-4 record in 33 appearances. He struck out 64 batters in 74.2 innings pitched.
Schellinger signed on to the independent Frontier League team in Washington PA for the 2008 season, going 9-6 with a 3.95 E.R.A. with 84 strikeouts to only 29 Bases on Balls in 114 innings pitched. Schellinger held opposing batters to a .236 Batting Average Against.
Asked about the acquisition of Schellinger, manager Hal Lanier said, "Mike was Washington's #1 starter last year. Any time you can add a team's number one starter to your club, it's a great thing. Everything I've seen on (Mike) will make him a great fit for this league and a great addition to the Skyhawks."
The Skyhawks also announce today that the following players have been released: RHP Rich Lawyer, RHP Khalid Afify, C Cliff Panezich and RHP Eric Thomas.
