
SKYHAWKS TO HOLD FREE AGENT TRYOUT CAMP

St. Louis, MO ~ The St. Louis SkyHawks of the United States Basketball League (USBL), is holding a free agent tryout camp Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club, located at 4245 N. Kingshighway, St. Louis, Missouri.
The two-day camp provides players the opportunity to tryout for a roster spot at the SkyHawks preseason training camp, set for early April. SkyHawks Head Coach Lionel Hollins, Assistant Coach Lee Winfield and General Manager Kerry Kinard, will be directing and scouting the tryout. Several local coaches including Cardinal Ritter's Head Coach and Harris Stowe State College interim athletic director, Marvin Neals, as well Noren Kirksey, administrator for the Anthony Bonner Summer League, will also be assisting with camp instruction.
The camp consists of two practice sessions per day. On Friday (3/22), session I will be conducted from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., while session II is from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. On Saturday (3/23), session III runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with the final session IV, beginning at 2:30 p.m. and concluding at 5:00 p.m. Coaches and players will be available to the media for interviews following each practice session. Camp is closed to the public.
Players interested in attending the camp, must be 18 years of age and older. The registration fee for camp is $150 until March 21, while walk-ups will be charged $180. Camp fee should be paid in cash, money order or certified check.
The USBL has been in existence since 1985 and is known as the "The League of Opportunity." Since its inception, the USBL has sent over 145 players to the National Basketball Association (NBA). There are approximately 30 USBL "alumni" on the current rosters of NBA teams, including Anthony Mason, Chris Childs, Charlie Ward, Avery Johnson and Darrell Armstrong. Currently coaching in the League are former NBA stars Darryl Dawkins, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and SkyHawks Head Coach Lionel Hollins.
An expansion franchise in the USBL, the SkyHawks tip-off their 2002 inaugural season, Saturday, April 20, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Mark Twain Basketball Arena.
