SkyHawks take down Brampton A's in last home game of year, 115-108

December 29, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release

Ottawa SkyHawks went toe to toe with the Brampton A's for the fifth time this month in what was an exciting home game for Ottawa at the seemingly packed Canadian Tire center.

Hot off the trail of last night's win against the Power, the SkyHawks burst into the first with a succession of quick buckets pushing the A's back 7 points with six minutes left in the quarter.

It is because Brampton's 75 per cent 3-point shooting in the first, they were quick to end the quarter by not only matching the SkyHawks but surpassing them and leaving them in the dust by five points at 23-28.

Tirrel Baines had a strong first quarter rounding off with ten points going into the second. It took almost ten minutes in the second, but the SkyHawks' never-give-up spirit popped them back on top of the A's by two points.

Refusing to settle for a tie at half like Saturday's game against the Power, Jerice Crouch pulled a clutch 4-point play in the final moments of the first half securing the lead and leaving the score at 58-56 going into the second half.

Powering through some more, Tirrell Baines and Jerice Crouch spearheaded the SkyHawks with 16 points each meanwhile Ottawa's own Eric Kibiestablished the team defensively and grabbing 8 rebounds.

Gripping ever so tightly, the Ottawa SkyHawks fend of the Brampton A's in the third quarter while maintaining their consistent lead and successfully closing the third period sitting on a seven point lead at 85-78.

Tirrell Baines and Jerice Crouch lit up the court with 20 points apiece and their flames only seemed to get brighter as they charged the SkyHawks into the fourth and final quarter of Sunday's faceoff.

The SkyHawks played a heated fourth quarter as the A's came within one point of catching up but thanks to roaring 2,100 SkyHawks fans and some highlight moments from Justin Tubbs and Ryan Anderson, the momentum was rolling once more.

When Justin Tubbs stole the ball in the fourth, he had to give the fans their holiday gift - it was a 360 slam dank that got the entire Canadian Tire Centre roaring and on their feet!

Working his magic from behind the scenes the whole game, Ryan Anderson made a splash in the fourth quarter and ultimately the whole game as he walked away with the most points and rebounds for Sunday afternoon's game with a total of 26 points and 15 rebounds.

In the end, the SkyHawks pushed through, kept their lead, and fed off the crowd's energy as they sent Brampton packing home with a score of 115-108.

When asked about the team's performance, forward Jermaine Johnson had this to say "We played really really hard, locked in, we had a meeting the other day and smoothed everything out. I feel really good about what we're doing as a team"

After being asked about his thoughts on how they fair against the A's consistently, Jermaine thought they had the A's' card and went on to say how it came down to matching up really well and how both teams are in the works for a great rivalry.

Coach Jaren Jackson added, " A home win is always good, I was excited to see 2,100 fans come out and support the team...this is the start of a something big. Having played a game two nights ago and last night, it's nice to see the SkyHawks weathered the storm in terms of schedule this weekend."
