College Park Skyhawks News Release
COLLEGE PARK, Ga. - The College Park Skyhawks (12-12) defeated the Greensboro Swarm (8-16) to complete the sweep of a two-game series, 115-100 at the Gateway Center Arena on Saturday for Esports Night.
The Skyhawks were led by a trio of big-time performances, including two double-doubles. Brandon Williams led the game in scoring with 28 points and added eight assists. Chris Silva notched his 12th double-double, with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Tyrese Martin, on assignment from the Hawks, tallied 22 points and 12 rebounds, which marked his eighth game of the season with 20+ points and 10+ rebounds.
The Skyhawks jumped out to a 20-6 lead with 5:43 left in the first quarter behind massive production from Silva (eight points, six rebounds, two steals) and Martin (six points and six rebounds) and finished the quarter up 36-21. The 15-point lead after one quarter was tied for the third-largest lead of the season.
The Skyhawks took a 60-43 lead into the locker room at half. The Swarm's 43 points marked the fifth fewest points allowed by the Skyhawks in a first half all season. The Skyhawks forced 12 turnovers in the first half for the eighth time this season.
As with the first matchup on Thursday, the Swarm mounted their challenge in the third quarter, besting the home side 35-26 behind 10 points from Hornets assignment player James Bouknight.
The fourth quarter was back-and-forth, with the Swarm getting to within one point at 88-87. Martin helped propel the Skyhawks ahead, nailing back-to-back three-pointers to extend the lead to 94-87 with 8:05 left. Clutch buckets from Brandon Williams, who scored 11 straight points for the Skyhawks in the quarter, helped put the Swarm away for good.
"We have to be efficient and effective for the full 48 minutes," said Skyhawks Head Coach Steve Gansey. "But one thing I do know for sure about this team is that we respond and we fight the right way."
The Swarm were paced by Theo Maledon, who poured in 24 points and grabbed six rebounds in 33 minutes.
The Skyhawks will next host two games against G League Ignite on Wednesday, March 8 and Thursday, March 9. Both games will begin at 7 p.m. ET.
