SkyHawks Acquire Guard Stefan Welsh
December 19, 2013 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Ottawa SkyHawks News Release
The excitement continues as Ottawa welcomes Stefan Welsh from Arkansas, United Sates (pending FIBA clearance). He will join the SkyHawks roster and share the spotlight with starting point guard Jerice Crouch, possibly make his debut as early as the 22nd of this month when Ottawa hosts the London Lightning in what will be a thrilling home match.
A 6-foot-3 guard, Welsh played for Arkansas in college and then went off to play the 2011-12 season in the NBA Development League, where he averaged 8.3 points a game for the Austin Toros. He has also played internationally in Israel, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and (most recently) China where he averaged a double-double.
Technical Director, Merrick Palmer said, "Stefan is a ruthless player. He is a lights-out shooter with great composure. I am excited to see how he will gel with the SkyHawks. He is aligned to our goals, wants to win and will do whatever it takes ... that's the attitude we are looking for!"
Stefan was brought on to replace back-up point guard Jamal Crook (who had a season-ending injury last week). He is a veteran on the hardwood and will not only look to create opportunities for his team mates, but also drive to the basket and not hesitate to shoot from beyond the arc. From Arkansas to around the globe and now in Ottawa, Stefan Welsh continues strong with his love for professional competitive basketball as the SkyHawks' latestÃâàpoint-guard addition.
Next home games: Sunday December 22, 2013 at the Canadian Tire Centre. Ottawa SkyHawks vs. the London Lightning at 2:00pm. As well, Sunday December 29, 2013 at the Canadian Tire Centre the Ottawa Skyhawks vs. the Brampton A's at 2:00pm.
Next away game: Friday December 27, 2013 in Windsor against the Windsor Express at the WFCU Center at 7:00pm.
