Allston, Mass. (Thursday, May 21, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (1-3-2, 5 points) is making the trip north to face the Boston Breakers (2-3-0, 6 points) on Friday night, with the two Northeast clubs meeting at Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium on the campus of Harvard University. "The players have responded incredibly well to the difficult result in Washington," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "We have had a very good week of training and look forward to a highly competitive match with Boston."
Sky Blue FC is coming off a heartbreaking loss that occurred last Saturday night in Washington, a game in which the team dominated statistically. Unfortunately for the New Jersey side, Nigerian striker Francisca Ordega was able to finish a Crystal Dunn assist in the 92^nd minute to steal a 1-0 victory. Despite the loss, Sky Blue FC saw some very encouraging statistics accumulate from the outing. Overall, it registered a season-high 21 shots to just nine for Washington, and the New Jersey club also recorded a season-high eight corner kicks.
The Breakers are coming off a 1-0 defeat of Portland Thorns FC last weekend, a game in which Kristie Mewis provided late heroics of her own with a 93^rd minute game-winning goal. Boston has played well at home this season, winning both of the matches it has hosted.
Overall, Friday night marks the 19^th overall meeting between these two clubs, with Sky Blue FC leading the all-time series, 7-5-6. However, the Breakers have gotten the better of the New Jersey side at home over their six-season rivalry, going 4-1-1 in the six games that have been played in Massachusetts.
After Friday night, Sky Blue FC will return home to Yurcak Field on Sunday, May 31^st, to host the Houston Dash at 3:00 PM EST. Individual game tickets for that match are on sale now .
