Sky Blue FC News Release
Lisle, Ill. (Tuesday, August 11, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (4-7-5, 17 points) will be returning to action on Wednesday afternoon, playing the second place Chicago Red Stars (7-2-6, 27 points) at the Benedictine University Sports Complex Stadium. Kickoff for the match, which will air live on YouTube, is set for 2:00 PM EST.
"Chicago is a tough place to play, so we know that we will need a very good performance to come away with three points," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "The Red Stars have a really athletic team that was at the top of the table for most of the season. Now it is up to us to go in there and find a way to get the result."
Sky Blue FC is coming off an impressive road showing last Friday night, where the team traveled south and blanked the Houston Dash, 2-0. The New Jersey club jumped out to a first half advantage in the 38th minute when Danish striker Nadia Nadim finished a chip from defender Cami Levin with a diving header, and they extended the count to two goals when Australian forward Sam Kerr buried an insurance tally on top of the 18 in the 72nd minute.
Chicago is coming off just its second defeat of the 2015 NWSL season, falling on the road to surging Portland Thorns FC this past Sunday night on FOX Sports 1. The Red Stars gained the first lead of the game courtesy of Alyssa Mautz in the 29th minute, but consecutive goals from Portland midfielder Allie Long in the 38th and 69th minutes hung the final 2-1 score line. The loss brought a six-match unbeaten streak for Chicago to a halt.
Wednesday afternoon marks the third meeting of the season between Sky Blue FC and the Red Stars. Chicago won the first encounter at home in early May, 1-0, before handing Sky Blue FC a 3-0 defeat at Yurcak Field in late June.
Sky Blue FC will return home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, August 22nd, hosting Portland Thorns FC at 7:00 PM. Individual and group tickets are on sale now and can be purchased online at tickets.skybluefc.com or by calling 888-SBFC-TIX (888-723-2849).
