Sky Blue FC News Release
Morristown, N.J. (Thursday, August 6, 2015) - Sky Blue FC (3-7-5, 14 points) is headed south for a Friday night pairing with the Houston Dash (5-5-5, 20 points) at BBVA Compass Stadium, where a crucial three points will be on the line. Kickoff for the match is slated for 8:30 PM EST, and fans can watch all of the action live via the FOX Sports Go app .
"Needless to say, this a must-win game for us," said Jim Gabarra, Sky Blue FC Technical Director & Head Coach. "We had a good performance when we went down to Houston last season, and we will need to replicate that on Friday night. We are playing a Dash team that is in good form, so we will have to continue playing at the level we have been over the past few games. However, we must do a better job in the final third and be more clinical in our finishing."
Sky Blue FC saw a three-match unbeaten streak come to a halt last weekend at Yurcak Field, suffering a heartbreaking loss to the Western New York Flash. In the contest, Sky Blue FC came out fast and furious, creating numerous opportunities on the offensive end of the field. The New Jersey side eventually fell behind in the 34^th minute due to a tally from Colombian striker Lady Andrade, but a Sam Kerr to Kelley O'Hara connection in the 52^nd minute leveled the count. Both teams fought for the game-winner over the remainder of this game, and it was the Flash who found it. In the 89^th minute, forward Lynn Williams spun around a defender before placing a ball into the air for the far post. There awaiting the distribution was 79^th minute substitute Elizabeth Eddy, who put a diving header on the cross that hit the back of the net, hanging the final 2-1 score line.
The Dash currently holds the fourth and final National Women's League (NWSL) Playoffs spot, recently seeing a three-match unbeaten streak of its own come to an end this past weekend. In its last contest, Houston played a road fixture with the Washington Spirit on Saturday night, falling behind 3-0 due to a first half hat trick from Spirit striker Crystal Dunn. The Dash did climb within two goals in the second half when Jessica McDonald finished a Kealia Ohai feed in the 74^th minute, but they did not get any closer than that 3-1 tally.
Sky Blue FC will have a quick turnaround after Friday night, playing its next match on Wednesday, August 12^th, in an afternoon matinee with the Chicago Red Stars. The team will then return home to Yurcak Field on Saturday, August 22^nd, hosting Portland Thorns FC at 7:00 PM.
