Skilled Forward Evgeny Lazarev Joins Mallards

Moline, IL-Quad City Mallards Head Coach and General Manager Brian Curran announced today that right wing Evgeny Lazarev has been added to the 2005-06 Mallards roster. The offensive forward joins the team for his fifth season of pro hockey in North America.

Last year, Lazarev played 53 games with a pair of teams in the ECHL and 11 contests with the American League's Hershey Bears. While appearing in just 48 contests with the ECHL's Wheeling Nailers, he ranked second on the team's roster in goals with 22. Lazarev recorded 42 points during his stay in Wheeling. In five contests with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL, Lazarev recorded a goal and two assists for three points. During his stay with the Hershey Bears, the Kharkov, Ukraine native tallied one point on an assist.

Lazarev has played 309 pro games during his career including 240 in the American Hockey League with Hershey. He has 148 career points on 62 goals and 86 assists. In 64 games at the Double A level, he has 26 goals and 27 assists for 53 points.

"This is an exciting signing for us," said Curran. "Evgeny has spent the majority of his career in the American League, and he has a very good skill level. I think he'll add a lot to our team."

The Mallards open the 2005-06 season on Friday, October 21st in Flint vs. the Generals. The 11th home opener in franchise history is slated for Saturday, October 22nd vs. the Motor City Mechanics.
