Skeeters Drop Series to Pats on Errors and Early Pitching

SUGAR LAND, TX - The Sugar Land Skeeters dropped their series against the Somerset Patriots in a 9-6 loss on Sunday night. The Skeeters are 18-13 in the second half and tied with York for 1st place in the Freedom Division.

Brett Marshall could only get through two innings after giving up six runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Marshall was pegged with his 5th loss of the season.

The Patriots scored first for the 3rd night in a row on Eric Farris' single that scored Vinny Zarrillo in the 1st. Bryan LaHair followed by driving in Farris to give the Patriots a 2-0 lead.

The Patriots continued to pour it on in the 2nd starting with Farris' two-run double that scored Vinny Zarrillo and Luis Mateo, extending the lead to 4-0. David Vidal singled home Farris and Aharon Eggleston making it 6-0 and Kyle Roller's RBI double scored Bryan Lahair to put Somerset up 7-0.

Nik Turley gave up his only run of the game in the bottom half of the inning when he walked Patrick Palmeiro with the bases loaded, scoring Jeremy Barfield to make it 6-1. The Patriots continued to pull away in the 3rd when Aharon Eggleston singled home Carlos Guzman to extend the lead to 8-1. David Vidal tacked on another run with an RBI single that scored Vinny Zarrillo to make it 9-1.

Beamer Weems started a 6th inning rally with a single that drove home Delwyn Young. Patrick Palmeiro continued the inning by launching a grand-slam to cut the deficit to 9-6. The Skeeters came up short as Jon Hunton came on to earn his 26th save of the season.
