Six Year MLB Vet Rodriguez Added to 'Fish Tank

(Bridgeport, Conn. - March 25, 2015 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Luis Rodriguez. Rodriguez will make his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish during his 18th season of professional baseball.

"Luis is another veteran that brings big league experience to our team," says Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "He's a very well rounded player, bringing great defense on the field and a strong approach at the plate."

Last year, the former Major Leaguer appeared in 12 games for Laguna of the Mexican League.

The 34-year-old has spent six seasons in the big leagues, making his Major League debut with the Minnesota Twins in 2005 and batting .269 in 79 games as a rookie. He played two more years for the Twins before heading over to the San Diego Padres in 2008. After two campaigns with the Padres, the switch-hitter made his final stop in the Majors in 2010 with the Seattle Mariners. Over the course of 407 Major League games, he owns a .238 batting average with 60 extra-base hits, 80 RBI and 100 runs scored, while holding a .977 and .985 fielding percentage at shortstop and second base, respectively.

Rodriguez began his professional career in 1998 as an undrafted free agent of Minnesota. In 1,206 minor league games, he has compiled a .277 batting average with 64 home runs, 231 doubles, 507 RBI and 600 runs scored.
