Six Sockers Included in Inaugural Class of Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame

The Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame and its blue ribbon selection committee announced the twelve members who will comprise the inaugural 2011 Hall of Fame class. Included in the group of twelve players, coaches and contributors to the game of indoor soccer are six former San Diego Sockers.

Indoor superstar Juli Veee, who scored 602 points in 263 MISL and NASL indoor games and won six championships in nine years, headlines the group of six Sockers honored. Former head coach Ron Newman, who led the Sockers to ten championships in eleven seasons, all-time indoor scoring leader Steve Zungul, Branko Segota, Victor Nogueira and Kevin Crow round out the former Sockers enshrined.

"This is an incredible honor," said Veee upon hearing the announcement, "What makes it so great is that I'm sharing it with so many friends. To see how many Sockers are going into the first class of the Indoor Hall of Fame, it makes me proud and is a statement about the greatness of the organization."

Members of the selection committee include National Soccer Hall of Famers Newman and Al Miller, legendary Baltimore Blast Head Coach Cooper, longtime Dallas Sidekicks Head Coach and former World Indoor Soccer League Commissioner Gordon Jago, and current MISL coaches Keith Tozer and Kim Roentved.

Also being honored in the inaugural Indoor Soccer Hall of Fame classof twelve are MISL founder Earl Foreman, players Tatu, Stan Stamenkovic, and Kim Roentved, and coaches Kenny Cooper and Don Popovic.
