Huntsville Flight News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Feb. 1, 2003) â Jeff Trepagnier scored a game-high 23 points, including a couple of electrifying dunks, as Asheville captured a 93-84 NBDL road victory over the Huntsville Flight here Saturday night at the Von Braun Center.
The Altitude (13-20), which won for the second time in the last three games, had six players score in double figures as Gary Williams and Brandon Kurtz each added 14 points, while Eddie Gill contributed with 13 and Eddie Elisma got 12 off the bench.
Asheville coach Joey Meyer credited the play of his team's defense that caused 15 turnovers and capitalized with 22 points off those Flight miscues.
"I was pleased with our defense in stretches," Meyer said. "We did a better job defensively than we have had in a while. I thought that was key. We got offense from our defense tonight."
The Altitude converted 33-of-68 from the floor hitting 48.5 percent of their shots, while making 27-of-34 from the line for 84.4 percent.
For the Flight (15-16) they were limited to just 37.6 percent shooting, hitting just 32-of-85 of their attempts. Huntsville did get 17 points from Brandon Williams, 14 from Jermaine Walker and 13 points along with 13 rebounds for Rodney Bias.
"I am trying to tell them to do what they can do," Flight head coach Ralph Lewis said about how he addressed his team postgame. "You have to play the game the right way. We have to trust each other and play as a unit. Right now we aren't doing that."
The night, though, belonged to Trepagnier who excited the crowd with some exemplary play including a late dunk off a steal that he threw off the backboard, grabbed the ball in mid-air and slammed it in the basket.
It was that type of play that Meyer liked seeing from his team on this night.
"I liked the fact that we pressured better tonight, "Meyer added.. "We didn't just let them dictate to us how the game was going to be played."
