Simpson Converts Wins to Rewards

BALTIMORE, MD (August 6, 2009) - Following a 2009 season in which he led the Baltimore Mariners to a 9-5 record and the club's first playoff berth, Head Coach Chris Simpson was awarded a new contract for the 2010 season.

"I am very excited about coming back to Baltimore. I love the city and the people here. I believe that we have the best fans in the league and the relationships that have been built over the last three seasons have been a tremendous blessing to me and my family. We have a great ownership group in Dwayne Wells and Kevin Fash and Greg Justice has done an outstanding job as GM. I look forward to working with them in continuing to build this franchise into one of the premier teams in the league," stated Simpson.

Simpson has a diverse coaching background, both as an assistant and head coach, and at the high school and professional levels. He served as an offensive coach for the Sacramento Gold Miners of the Canadian Football League and as a running backs/linebackers coach with the San Jose SaberCats of the Arena Football League. The 2010 season will be his sixth as a head coach in professional indoor football and third piloting the Mariners.

An experienced coach, the Idaho native also had a successful playing career. After an All-American and All-State career as a defensive back at Orofino High School, Simpson played four years for the University of Arizona Wildcats. Following his collegiate career he signed as a free-agent defensive back with the Dallas Cowboys. Once his stint with the Cowboys was complete Simpson entered the coaching ranks.

The Mariners' head coach hopes to capitalize on the team's achievements in 2009 to build an even stronger squad in 2010. "Success breeds interest and we will aggressively go after talent that we believe will fit into the chemistry of the organization and help take us to the next step of winning playoff games and ultimately the AIFA championship."

The Baltimore Mariners are members of the American Indoor Football Association (AIFA). The AIFA currently has 14 teams nationwide with expansion set in 2010 for Richmond, Virginia, Trenton, New Jersey, and Washington State.
