Silverbacks Welcome Carolina to "The Jungle"

Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
Despite playing with 10 men for more than 85 minutes of the match, the Silverbacks nearly fought their way to at least a share of the points at home on Tuesday night. Pedro Mendes chipped in his sixth goal of the season- on an assist from Junior Burgos- just five minutes after Rauwshan McKenzie's fourth-minute red card. Minnesota United forward Christian Ramirez headed home an equalizer just before the half hour mark. Despite late handball controversy at the other end, United's J.C. Banks capitalized on an inadvertent deflection to score the winner for the Loons in the 84th minute.

Fall Season: RailHawks 2, Silverbacks 0 (Sept. 4)
What to Watch for:
1. Chance to rebound from a midweek loss | Having another game so quickly after Tuesday's matchup with United isn't ideal in terms of rest, but the Saturday game will give the Silverbacks an immediate opportunity to bounce back against the RailHawks. If the Silverbacks can achieve a positive result Saturday in the speedy return to the field, it would be a big boost for the squad heading into the final six matches of the season.
2. All tied up with Carolina in the standings | Entering the weekend, Atlanta and Carolina sit level on 26 points in the combined season table and have split the season series after two meetings at WakeMed Soccer Park. Even the records (6-8-9) are identical, meaning Saturday's rubber match has potential to be a six-point swing in favor of the victor.
3. Who steps up to replace Rauwshan McKenzie | Atlanta's biggest personnel decision for the weekend will be who slots into the lineup for Rauwshan McKenzie in defense. Abdul Bangura and Mohammed Issahaku, two potential starters, have both earned playing time in Atlanta's defense during the fall. Chris Christian also recently returned to the Silverbacks from a successful USL loan, during which he started five times for Switchbacks FC, a conference leader. Combine that with Paul Black's versatility in switching positions along the back line, and Smith will have adequate options as he selects his defense.

Before the Silverbacks take on the RailHawks, Atlanta soccer alumni from various professional teams throughout the years will compete in the Atlanta Legends Game to celebrate the city's soccer history. The pre-match exhibition is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. in the stadium, two hours before that night's NASL matchup, with former Silverbacks players among the participants. The Club's 2013 Spring Season championship trophy will also be on hand.
Silverbacks, Country Financial partner for skills clinic
The Club will team with Country Financial to host a youth skills clinic (U6-U13 age groups) on Thursday, Oct. 1, in Piedmont Park. Participants will be able to learn soccer skills from the Silverbacks, followed by a meet-and-greet and autograph session with the team. Space in the clinic will be limited to the first 100 players who register online.
