Kandji Featured in 90:00

The editors of 90:00 magazine recently sat down with the Silverbacks very own Mac Kandji to find out a little bit more about one of the most promising young talents in USL1.

Women's Roster Taking Shape

Several key members of last year's W-League finalist squad will return for the 2008 season.

The roster to date includes defenders Julie Augustyniak-Tuff and Monica Buff, midfielders Krista Davey, Tara Minnax, Melanie Schneider, and Candace West, and forwards Christine Latham and Sara Steinmann.

"Last year was a crucial building year for our program," says Silverbacks W-League executive director Laura Fedrigo. "We brought back the players we know can help us reach the next level."

Several other returning players have signed on with the club for 2008, along with some promising new talent. Those contracts are pending league approval. Watch AtlantaSilverbacks.com for breaking news in the following weeks.

Player Combine Coming Up

The Women will be looking to bolster an already strong lineup at its annual player combine March 28 and 29. Registration for the combine is closed.

The Women kick off the 2008 season April 19 at Silverbacks Park hosting the Hampton Roads Piranhas.

'Back in the Hat

Rodrigo Rios (pictured) and Tony McManaus donned the world-famous Suessian hat to help Hightower Elementary students celebrate National Read Across America Day March 2. "It was a really enjoyable day," says McManaus. "The kids were all really excited to have us there, and I got to read Fox in Sox, my favorite Dr. Suess book. It was really a lot of fun." Read Across America Day is an annual event marking children's author Dr. Suess' birthday.

Elite U-13s and U-14s Capture Tournament Titles

Silverbacks Elite Under-13 (pictured top) and Under-14 (below) both won their respective division titles at the Blue Diamond Vulcan Cup March 1 and 2 in Birmingham, Alabama. The tournament featured some of the top teams from across the Southeast.

Neither team conceded a goal in tournament play. The U-13s swept the field, outscoring the competition 18-0. The U-14s won three and played one to a scoreless draw.

Stadium Construction Update

Construction on Phase II of Silverbacks Park continues to move forward as opening day a little more than a month away.
