Silverbacks to begin search for new coach
June 30, 2008 - Continental Indoor Football League (CIFL)
Dayton Silverbacks News Release
Miami Valley Silverbacks general manager Carl Allen is ready to tackle hiring his successor as on field general of the squad for the 2009 season.
Allen, who had served in both capacities during the 2008 season, has begun searching for the third head coach in Silverbacks' history.
"My focus in this search is going to lean toward experience and coaching knowledge," Allen said. "I want to find a coach who can be balanced. Professional experience is not a necessarily a requirement, but our candidate should be able to make the jump successfully to this level. "I would prefer to find a candidate that can handle professional athletes and the business side of minor league sports, but is also tied to the local community."
Allen will begin the search by looking at members of his staff from last season but will be looking outside the organization for the right fit as well.
Silverbacks' president Matthew King also wants a coach whose qualifications go beyond the Xs and Os of the game, but also offers a tight fit with the future of the organization.
"The Silverbacks will be entering their fourth season next year," King said. "That is longer than the other indoor teams in this area have survived combined. We believe we are doing things the right way, and that is one of the reasons we are still here. "Our next coach will have to be able to fit in with the plans of the organization and bring something to the table in the further advancement of the Silverbacks. They will have to be able to work well with the media, the public and always adhere to the highest standards of conduct on the field and off."
Deadline for applications is July 31, 2008, but Allen and King plan on scheduling interviews immediately.
"We want to get a jump on the 2009 season," King said. "We have been working diligently behind the scenes for major organizational changes. "There are many great coaches available for this position, but we want to find the right fit for the future of this organization."
Anyone interested in applying for the head coaching decision should send their resume and a cover letter to the Miami Valley Silverbacks, Attn: Carl Allen, 1320 Woodman Dr. Suite 100, Dayton, OH. 45432. Applicants can also email the information to coachallen@silverbacksfootball.com.
