Silverbacks stand tall at receiving corps

Dayton Silverbacks News Release

(Troy, OH) The Miami Valley Silverbacks professional indoor football team has added some height to their roster for the 2007 season.

The Silverbacks have signed Drew Ellis to the 2007 roster. Ellis, a former Morehead State University Eagle, stands at six feet and seven inches tall.

"Anytime you see a receiver that tall, you think he will either be slow or clumsy," stated Silverbacks Head Coach and General Manager Matthew King. "I was impressed with Drew. He ran a 4.63 second forty yard dash at our tryout. He fits into his frame very well. He's very tall, but he's not lanky or clumsy at all. He's actually very athletic."

The name Ellis may sound a little familiar. Drew's brother, Seth, is returning to the Silverbacks for his second season at quarterback. "We fully plan on using that brotherhood bond to our benefit," said King. "These guys grew up playing football together. That kind of chemistry is hard to find between a quarterback and receiver."

The Silverbacks plan on using Ellis in several capacities. "It's hard to cover a six foot seven athlete," added King. "We will probably have a few plays where we put the ball up for him to go and get. He should be able to out-jump a lot of DB's. We will also use him to block for our running game and possibly block field goals and extra points."

The Silverbacks, a member of the Continental Indoor Football League, are gearing up for their 2007 home opener on March 30th. Silverbacks' season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased at Hobart Arena, or at (937) 718-7044. Season ticket information is available on the Silverbacks website at www.silverbacksfootball.com.
