Silverbacks sign former Springfield South star Greene

The Miami Valley Silverbacks have signed former Springfield South and University of Toledo standout Donta Greene for the 2008 season.
Greene, 5'7", 180, helps solidify the wide receiving corps as the Silverbacks look to build on their first playoff appearance in 2007. The Silverbacks, a member of the Continental Indoor Football League, are entering their third season at Hobart Arena.
"He's a coach's dream," Silverbacks coach Carl Allen said. "He has a great attitude, work ethic, a leader on and off the field, and not to mention a very talented athlete. "He is a player that every coach wants on their team and I'm glad he's on mine."
While at Springfield South, Greene was twice all conference and all-district while earning All-Ohio honors as a junior. Springfield South won two conference titles, with Greene accounting for 40 touchdowns his final two seasons.
Greene continued his football career at Toledo where he left as the school's all-time career leader in receptions. Greene led the team in receptions as a junior and a senior, snaring 62 balls his junior campaign as the Rockets advanced to the Motor City Bowl. Greene ended his Toledo career with catching at least one pass in 33 straight games.
Greene also is still fourth in career all-purpose yards and second in all-purpose yards in a season. He holds the Rockets' record for punt return yardage in a season and career and is also the season for kickoff return yardage, ranking fourth all time. His 134 yard performance on kickoff returns against Minnesota still ranks third in Toledo history. In all, Greene ranks in the top five in 15 offensive categories for a season and career at Toledo.
Following graduation from Toledo with a degree in criminal justice, Greene played with Montreal in the Canadian Football League.
