Dayton Silverbacks News Release
For the first time in franchise history, the Miami Valley Silverbacks are playoff bound.
The Silverbacks clinched a playoff berth with a 56-22 win over Springfield Saturday night in the Illinois state capitol.
"We can stop worrying about it now," coach Carl Allen said. "It feels good to get in so we can concentrate on football. "We are just happy to be in the playoffs and I feel good about the situation we are in for the playoffs."
Where Miami Valley will be for the first playoff game the weekend of June 30 is still up in the air. The Silverbacks have one game remaining - Saturday at Chesapeake - but even their result won't settle the dust.
If Miami Valley wins and Marion and Muskegon both loose their remaining games, the Silverbacks will host the first round. If either Marion (vs. Springfield, @ Summit County) and Muskegon (vs. Kalamazoo, vs. Lehigh) win both games, or split, then the Silverbacks will be road warriors in the playoffs.
If the Silverbacks win and either team splits, the playoffs will begin in Chicago. If Muskegon loses both games, the Silverbacks will be in Marion. Chances are slim Marion will drop both games with their opponents a combined 0-21 on the season.
"The chance of getting a home game is not good," Allen said. "But it doesn't matter to me because I know we can play with either of those teams."
Miami Valley split with Marion during the regular season, and went 0-2 against Chicago, but lost in the Windy City 48-47 on a score in the final minute of the game.
"I think we could beat either team with the way we are playing," Allen said. "We were right there against Chicago and we were shorthanded because of injuries. "And, we owe Marion one."
