Silverbacks Receive League Accolades

July 2, 2006 - American Indoor Football Association (AIFA)
Dayton Silverbacks News Release

(Troy,OH)-The Miami Valley Silverbacks were recognized by the American Indoor Football League (AIFL) for their "off the field" performance during the 2006 season. The Silverbacks won "Best PA Announcer" and "Best Community Involvement" for the Northern Division. In addition, Sue Keeton, Director of PR and Broadcasting for the Silverbacks, was recognized as the front office representative for the team.

The Silverbacks were recognized for the Community Involvement award for involving Jason McCabe, a local MRDD client who aspires to be a sports broadcaster, in one of their home games. McCabe was invited to announce the Silverbacks during pre-game festivities and also addressed the team with a pre-game pep talk. McCabe's story, originally told by the Troy Daily News, was further broadcast in a heart-warming story written by Dayton Daily News columnist Tom Archdeacon.

Best PA Announcer accolades went to Doug Brown, a local sports enthusiast and diehard supporter of the Silverbacks. Brown has spent many years on the Dayton sports scene and is heavily involved in dirt track racing.

"It is certainly an honor to be recognized by your peers for these awards," commented Matt King, Silverbacks Head Coach and General Manager. "The team's performance on the field is important but what happens behind the scenes in terms of the product we deliver to our fans, our community, is equally important. I'm proud of what our staff did this year to make each game a fun, family-oriented experience for our fans."

Awards were given in eight categories and voted on by the general managers of each team, as well as members of the media. The Silverbacks competed against six Northern Division teams. Two remaining categories will be announced in the coming days.

The Silverbacks are now accepting reservations for 2007 season ticket packages. For more information, call 937.718.7044.
