Silverbacks plan on flying high with Byrd

(Troy, OH) The Miami Valley Silverbacks professional indoor football team has added former NFL/AFL player Charles Byrd to the 2007 roster.
Byrd (6'0', 210) was a standout for the Morehead State Eagles from 2000 to 2004.
In 2002, Byrd was named All-PFL South and named to The Football Gazette's Division I-AA Mid Major All-America team. He intercepted six passes for 87 yards, accumulated 313 yards on 12 kickoff returns, and was credited with 72 total tackles and broke up 21 passes.
In 2003, he recorded three interceptions for 32 yards, and returned 10 kickoffs for 216 yards. Again he was named to the All-I-AA Mid Major All America First Team and All-PFL South. He recorded 63 tackles, 45 unassisted and averaged 21.6 yards on kickoff returns.
In 2004, Byrd was named to the All-I-AA Mid Major All America First Team and All-PFL South for the third consecutive season. He intercepted four passes for a total of 142 yards and one touchdown, tallied four kickoff returns for 91 yards (an average of 22.8 yards per return), recorded 38 total tackles, 14 pass breakups, and recovered one fumble.
Byrd was picked up as an undrafted free agent by the Cleveland Browns in 2005. That season he also spent time with the Green Bay Packers. Byrd then became a member of the Washington Redskins practice squad for the remainder of the season.
In 2006, Byrd was a member of the Las Vegas Gladiators of the Arena Football League.
"Our defensive backfield will be top-notch," stated Silverbacks General Manager and Head Coach Matthew King. "With Chris (Conwell, Ohio State), Eric (Moore, Ohio State), and Charles Byrd, we should be very solid. Charles is probably one of the best cover guys that I have ever worked out. He will play a pivotal role for us this season, and I can't explain how excited we are to have him as a part of our team this season."
