Dayton Silverbacks News Release

Troy, OH, January 29, 2007 -- The Miami Valley Silverbacks professional indoor football team has partnered with Samaritan North Sports Medicine, a program of Good Samaritan Hospital. Samaritan North Sports Medicine will be the exclusive provider of all the Silverbacks medical and athletic training.

As part of the agreement, Samaritan North Sports Medicine team will provide the Silverbacks with an athletic trainer who'll offer injury prevention, medical coverage, injury assessment, rehabilitation and strength training services at practices and games. Additionally, a Samaritan North sports medicine physician will also attend home games at the Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio to provide medical coverage.

"We are extremely excited to be partnering with such an outstanding organization," said Silverbacks Head Coach and General Manager Matthew King. "Samaritan North Sports Medicine is a top-notch organization that is dedicated to providing the best in sports medicine services, and the Silverbacks are dedicated to providing the Miami Valley with a championship team. This is a mutually beneficial partnership that will help us become a premier minor league sports franchise."

The Silverbacks believe the key to winning a championship is providing great medical and athletic training services to their players. The physicians and dedicated trainer from Samaritan North Sports Medicine program agree and are excited to be working with the Silverbacks to help them reach their performance goals.

James Klosterman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, said, "Healthy teams win more games. Our first focus is always injury prevention. We'll introduce the Silverbacks to the latest strength training techniques and help reduce their risk of common injuries. Then, in the event of an injury, we'll work quickly to assess and provide rehabilitation to get those players back in the game."

Michael Barrow, MD, a board certified family physician and sports medicine, said, "Indoor football is an exciting, full-contact sport and just as competitive as outdoor football. It's common to see a lot of shoulder and knee injuries that result from the indoor arena and turf. As a result, we'll be focusing on minimizing the team's risk and reducing the recovery time from any injuries that do result."

King added, "Rounding out our Samaritan North support team is head athletic trainer Vic Billheimer, who is very knowledgeable and experienced. It's hard to win games at this level when your players are out with an injury. The SNSM organization focuses on injury prevention, which is imperative in this sport. That is just one of the reasons that we pursued them for this partnership."

On April 14, both organizations will conduct an Acceleration Training Clinic, which will be run by Samaritan North Sports Medicine staff members, Silverbacks players, and the Silverbacks coaching staff. This free event will be held on a morning prior to a Silverbacks home game, and it will be aimed at youth and high school athletes. Youth and high school coaches are also encouraged to come and learn techniques that they can use for their players. For more information on the clinic, contact Vic Billheimer at 937-276-6784.
