Silverbacks' Lee Rewrites AIFL Record Book -- Five Marks Set In Win Over Stampede

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Miami Valley wide receiver Maurice Lee set five American Indoor Football League records Saturday as the Silverbacks downed the Steubenville Stampede 57-54.
Lee's receiving line -- 16 catches, 191 yards and seven touchdowns -- all were league records as were his overall touchdowns (seven) and points scored (42). [see chart below]
"Sweet ... what a blessing," said Lee, a former Ohio State star. "This was one of the games where I was in the zone and everything was working. I have to credit my teammates for supporting me and giving me the opportunity."

"You think we ought to give him the ball more? asked Miami Valley coach Matt King. "I have to be luckiest coach in the league because I have the best receiver in the league ... I don't think anyone can cover him."
The Silverbacks (2-1) needed every one of Lee's catches in a see-saw battle against a rejuvenated Stampede (0-4) team that had a chance to win in the final seconds.
After T.J. Wiley's to Sly Brumfield made it a three-point game with 40 seconds left, the Stampede recovered an onside kick and threatened to score, but Miami Valley's BJ Paulus preserved the game with an interception.
Both quarterbacks had big nights -- Matt Glacklen threw for 255 yards and eight touchdowns despite suffering a broken jaw while Wiley finished with 291 yards and seven touchdowns.
Lee's no stranger to the record books -- he tied the National Indoor Football League's single-game reception mark of 15 and set the single-game return yards standard of 276 while playing for the now-defunct Dayton Warbirds.
"One of these days I'm going lose Maurice to the next level,'' King said. "I'm going to hate that day and love it at the same time."
