Buffalo Silverbacks News Release

Buffalo, NY. The ABA Buffalo Silverbacks, with the support of Creditors Interchange, are continuing their mission of goodwill throughout the Western New York region. In a recent letter, the staff of Stanley G. Galk School wrote:

"This is to thank the Buffalo Silverbacks for presenting their "Do Your Best, Never Quit" seminar to our Falk School students. We were fortunate in that the Silverbacks visited our school on three separate occasions - to meet with our elementary, middle and high school students respectively.

We cannot thank the Silverbacks enough for their time and genuine commitment to youth character development. Player/assistant coach and lead speaker, Modie Cox, along with player Kevin Ross captured the students' attention initially with their athleticism. The men are professional basketball players and role models to our students. Similar to other youth in our community, our students have been challenged in varying ways - academic, behavioral, personal and social. When Mr. Cox speaks of life stressors and experiences he has been challenged by, and when he emphasizes an individual's ability to make positive choices to better meet life challenges, he is embracing and emphasizing the "Do Your Best, Never Quit" philosophy in a very real and honest way.

Character education is the focus of the Silverbacks' presentation. But as Modie states, basketball is the 'lure.' The proponents of character education are addressed throughout the Silverbacks' seminar: Trustworthiness (build a good reputation, do the right thing), Respect (be tolerant of others, use the Golden Rule), Responsibility (persevere, keep trying, use self control), Fairness( play by the rules, sportsmanship), Caring (kindness, compassion), Citizenship (respect authority, cooperate). Students and staff alike have commented on the overall positive message of the Silverbacks' program towards an individual's improved attitude, coping and appropriate decision making.

Without a doubt, we highly recommend the Silverbacks "Do Your Best, Never Quit" program as worthwhile and effective. We are appreciative that the Silverbacks have visited our school. We look forward to possible further coordination with your organization as we continue to build on youth/student character development. Thank you for visiting our school and for your caring."
