Silverbacks Host Miami FC
August 15, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
As the USL First Division regular season winds down, the 2006 playoff race is heating up considerably as every team scrambles to secure a spot in post-season play. At the completion of the regular season, the top six teams in the USL qualify for playoffs, and the Atlanta Silverbacks currently hold the 6th and final spot. The Silverbacks will have the chance to strengthen their position this Saturday night, August 19 against Miami FC at 7:30 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium.
Miami FC, currently in 9th place, sits just three points behind Atlanta with 26 points. A win Saturday night will be critical for the Silverbacks and the strength of the team's playoff position. Atlanta lost to Miami 1-0 on the road during injury time early in the season (May 14). The Silverbacks will need to contain two Brazilian soccer greats, "Romario" and "Zinho", in order to defeat Miami. Both players competed for the Brazilian national team and helped the team win the 1994 World Cup. Romario, the second leading scorer in world soccer history, will bring his goal scoring campaign to Atlanta as he attempts to reach 1,000 career goals, a feat which only Pelé has achieved.
The first 500 fans through the gates at the "Colgate Palmolive Game Day" will receive the final pack of 2006 player cards allowing fans to collect the entire set. For ticket information call 1-866-GO-BACKS or visit www.atlantasilverbacks.com.
