Are You Ready For Vancouver This Weekend?

August 15, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Seattle Sounders News Release

The Sounders are busy preparing to square off with long time rival, the Vancouver Whitecaps this Saturday at Qwest Field. The Sounders are 1-0-1 against second place Vancouver this season and look to continue their home field success as they make a run for the post season.

Now it's time to prepare the fans for this match! :) Besides the heated rivalry, here is what makes this game so exciting: #

The Sounders are fighting for their playoff lives with 28 points on the year, just one point out of a playoff spot and have five games remaining; four of those are at home. Vancouver is in second place with 38 pts. #

Seattle and Vancouver are the two highest scoring teams in the USL First Division. The Sounders have notched 34 goals while Vancouver has 33. #

The Sounders have a two point lead over Vancouver in the Cascadia Cup chase. The Cascadia Cup is an annual Northwest Derby between the Sounders, Whitecaps and Portland Timbers. The Sounders are 3-1-2 with 11 points, a win against Vancouver would seal the cup and snatch it from the reigning Cascadia Cup Champion Whitecaps. #

Sounder Forward and Seattle University alumni Cam Weaver leads the league in goals scored with 18! He has broke the Sounders all time rookie scoring record and is looking to shatter the Sounders record for goals scored in a single season - 20 set back in 1998. #

Cuban striker Maykel Galindo has returned to top form after missing 17 matches with a broken nose and facial bone. In just four matches Galindo has recorded two goals and three assists with many more to come down the stretch..... #

The Sounders backline returns to full strength as Defender Zach Scott hopes to return to the field Saturday after mid-season surgery to remove excess scar tissue in his left foot. #

The Sounders are 6-2-2 at home this season and hope their home field advantage continues as they face playoff bound teams down the stretch in Vancouver, Charleston and Atlanta.
