August 1, 2006 - USL First Division (USL-1)
Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

After a heartbreaking loss to Montreal last Friday night, the Atlanta Silverbacks showed a tremendous amount of heart to come from behind twice and win their Sunday night match against the Minnesota Thunder 3-2. The Silverbacks will look to reclaim their history of winning at home when they host the Toronto Lynx this Friday night at 7:30 pm at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium.

The Silverbacks sit in 5th place with 28 points, just three points shy of the second place Charleston Battery. The Lynx sit in 11th place with 16 points, second from the bottom of the table. Toronto had a rough start to the season going 0-9-2; however, the team has been on a role lately with a 4-1-2 record in their last seven games. During their hot streak, the Lynx beat the Silverbacks 1-0 in Toronto two weeks ago (7.16). Friday night's game will give Atlanta a chance for revenge and a chance to continue their hunt for the 2006 playoffs. DAWKINS' EFFORTS IN MINNESOTA EARN HIM PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS

Fabian Dawkins played a huge role in the Silverbacks' 3-2 defeat of the Minnesota Thunder on Sunday evening; so huge a role that he was named the Player of the Week for the USL First Division. Dawkins helped the Silverbacks overcome a one-goal deficit twice to pull out a 3-2 win over the Thunder. Dawkins played a part in all three of the Silverbacks' goals, which each occurred in the final eight minutes of the match (including three minutes of stoppage time). Dawkins assisted Warren Ukah and Maurice Hughes to get the 'Backs to a 2-2 tie and then gave Atlanta the go-ahead goal in stoppage time off an assist from David Hayes. This was Dawkins' first 2006 Team of the Week honors - he suffered from an injury earlier in the season and missed some games.
