Silverbacks final regular season home game Saturday against Rochester
Published on August 31, 2006 under USL First Division (USL-1)
Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
In typical USL First Division fashion, the race for playoffs has come down to the wire and all six teams to qualify for post-season play may not be decided until the last game of the season. The Atlanta Silverbacks still have control over their playoff destiny and if the team wins the last four games, an extended season is guaranteed. The Silverbacks will begin their final playoff push this Saturday at 7:30 pm when they host the Rochester Raging Rhinos at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium. The match versus the Rhinos, the second-place team in the USL First Division, will be the last 2006 regular season home match at the 'Backs new stadium. The Silverbacks will round out the season next week with a three-game road trip against Portland, Seattle, and Vancouver.
The Silverbacks and the Rhinos have met once already this season; Atlanta lost to Rochester 1-0 during stoppage time when the two teams played each other in Rochester on August 5. The Rhinos have a 5-3-4 away record, while the Silverbacks have a 7-3-3 home record. Atlanta is coming off two losses and will look to end the home season as they started it... with a win.
The Silverbacks began their inaugural season at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium with a win on June 3; the win kicked-off an eight-game undefeated streak at the team's new home. Atlanta suffered its first home loss on July 28 when the team lost 2-1 in injury time to the Montreal Impact. The Silverbacks went through a slump for the next two home games, losing to Toronto 4-2 and tying Puerto Rico 1-1. On August 19 the Silverbacks had a big home win over Miami FC, but they let Miami return the favor less than a week later on August 25 at RE/MAX. With a win this weekend, the Silverbacks can inch a step closer to the post-season, improve their home record to 8-3-3, and end their inaugural season at the new RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium with a win.

FIREWORKS AND FESTIVITIES AT FINAL REGULAR SEASON HOME GAME
Just like the Silverbacks opened the 2006 regular season at RE/MAX Greater Atlanta Stadium with a bang, the organization will close the 2006 regular home season in much the same style. In a show of appreciation to fans for support this season, the Silverbacks have planned an eventful evening for everyone to enjoy. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive 2006 Silverbacks team cards. D.J. Grayson, a talented young singer/songwriter, will sing the national anthem before the start of the match. The Silverbacks will also put on a spectacular fireworks display above the stadium following the match. In addition to all the festivities, fans can watch the Silverbacks play their hearts out as they fight to make playoffs.
