Silverbacks Dedicate Playoff Win to Mrs. Pearl Wier

March 16, 2007 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Buffalo Silverbacks News Release

The Buffalo Silverbacks defeated the Jacksonville Jam tonight 100-91. The team dedicated this game to Mrs. Pearl Wier, the owner's mother, who found out last week that she had cancer which prevented the owner, Todd Wier, from being at the game. At the end of the game the players held their cell phone in the middle of the prayer circle that they end every game and every practice with and dedicated the rest of the season, in hopes of a championship, to Mrs. Wier.

Hats off to Lamar Castile who has emerged as one who will carry any load placed on his shoulders, as he scored 37 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Antoine Sims came into the game early for Modie Cox after an injury, contributing 23 points and providing the leadership that the team needed. Keith Closs, who in no way can be misunderstood, was on a mission tonight and totally dominated the paint on both ends of the court.

Owner Todd Wier said, "This season has been long and it's been tough, but I can say right now, I love Modie Cox, I love Trevor Ruffin and I love this team. So many friendships have been forged through the adversity we have faced together. God bless these boys, God bless sports and God bless the ABA. Do Your Best, Never Quit."

Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
