Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

ATLANTA - For the fifth time in four weeks, an Atlanta Silverbacks player was selected to the NASL Team of the Week - the league announced on Wednesday morning. After cementing the team's first clean sheet in his debut, Atlanta's Steward Ceus completed seven saves against the top-of-the-table New York Cosmos for a scoreless draw.

"It obviously means a lot to be honored after just having played just one match," Ceus said. "It was difficult to come into a new team this spring, and then to be injured in the preseason - that was tough. But all of the hard work by our physio staff and the belief of coach (Gary) Smith created such a strong enviornment and allowed this to happen.

"I'm excited to earn something from the league, but it's already on to the next one in my mind. The team is in a great position in the table and we face a tough away match to Fort Lauderdale this weekend."

Ceus joins center backs Simon Mensing and Rauwshan McKenzie and forwards Kyle Porter and Shaka Bangura as Team of the Week honorees this season.

The 6-foot-6 shot stopper silenced the Cosmos primetime attack, including a 10th minute strike by Real Madrid legend Raul, two by Marcos Senna and one by co-scoring leader Leo Fernandes.

The Haitian international accomplished all of that in his 2015 debut after undergoing minor knee surgery on March 25. He returned ahead of schedule, making his debut three weeks earlier than predicted.

The 2010 MLS Cup winner and former Colorado Rapid rejoined Atlanta as one of Smith's first signings of 2015.

The Silverbacks and Ceus next travel to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers on Saturday (7:30 p.m., ESPN3). Both teams are level on six points and sit tied for third in the NASL Spring Season table.
