Silver Stars Re-Sign Guard Shanna Crossley

SAN ANTONIO, March 10, 2010 - The San Antonio Silver Stars today announced the re-signing of guard Shanna Crossley. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not released.

"We are excited that Shanna continues her career here in San Antonio. She is one of the best shooters this league has seen we are looking forward to having her healthy and back on the court with the Silver Stars in 2010," said General Manager Dan Hughes.

San Antonio selected Crossley in the second round (16th overall) of the 2006 WNBA Draft and in three years she has amassed career averages of 7.3 points, 1.1 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 14.6 minutes per game.

"I've always loved being a Silver Star so I'm excited to have an opportunity to prolong my career in San Antonio," said Crossley. "I look forward to this season under our new coaching staff and I'm looking forward to getting underway."

In her rookie season, Crossley played in all 34 games and averaged 6.6 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game. She finished the season ranked 14th in the league in three-point field goal percentage, with.378 (48-of-127). Additionally, she ranked in the top 20 in the league among rookies in the following categories: 7th scoring average (6.6), 20th rebounds per game (1.2), 11th assists per game (1.0), 10th field goal percentage (.379), 2nd three-point field goal percentage (.378), 16th blocks per game (.12), and 10th in minutes per game (16.5).

In 2007, Crossley helped the Silver Stars advance to the WNBA Playoffs for the first time since the franchise moved from Utah to San Antonio by tallying averages of 9.2 points (fourth on the team) and 1.4 rebounds per game. San Antonio advanced to the Western Conference Finals but lost to Phoenix; Crossley averaged 8.2 points per game in the playoffs.

The Syracuse, Ind., native had shoulder surgery during the 2007-08 offseason to repair a partially torn labrum, then suffered an ACL injury during preseason and missed the entire 2008 season. Crossley then missed11 of the first 13 games in 2009 due to a torn left meniscus, but battled back and averaged career-highs in field goal percentage (.461) and in three-point field goal percentage (.444) in 19 games played.

Collegiately, Crossley finished her career at Tennessee ranked first in single-game three-pointers made (7 vs. Alabama, 2/19/06), first in single-season free throw percentage (.957 in 2003-04), first in career free throw percentage (.916; also an NCAA career record), first in single season three-point field goals made (103 in 2005-06), first in career three-point field goals made (266), first in career three-point field goal percentage (.425), second in career games played (144) and ninth on the all-time scoring list with 1,706 career points. Additionally, she was named to the all-region team at the 2006 NCAA Cleveland Regional, the All-SEC First Team in 2006, an ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American and a Preseason candidate for the State Farm Wade Trophy and Naismith Award.
