The fourth-place Syracuse Silver Knights (9-5) will play their third game in seven days, when they will take on the defending MISL Champions, the Baltimore Blast (10-3) at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena.
Friday's match is the third match against Baltimore played in January. The sides split the first two meetings, with the Blast doubling up the Knights 10-5 last Friday at Baltimore Arena. In the first fixture, Syracuse snapped Baltimore's seven game winning-streak with a 9-8 win on January 19, scoring the game-winner through DF Bo Jelovac with 58 seconds left. The victory was Coach Tommy Tanner's first against the seven-time indoor soccer champions at the War Memorial.
Historically, Baltimore has an edge against Syracuse, posting a 9-3 record against the Empire State club. The Blast has a 5-1 mark at the War Memorial, outscoring the hosts 92-65.
Syracuse FW Machel Millwood has a connection with Baltimore. The Jamaican began his indoor soccer career with the Blast in 2004, appearing in 182 games for 174 goals and 113 assists in nine years with the club. Millwood earned four MISL Championships in his stint with Baltimore.
Additionally, Blast FW Adauto Neto is familiar with Central New York. The Brazilian played for the Syracuse Salty Dogs in the A-League during the 2003 season. Neto made 19 appearances and tallied one goal.
Baltimore has enjoyed a successful MISL campaign, sitting in second-place with a 10-3 record. Coach Danny Kelly's squad has relied on their defense, giving up 4.5 points per game. The Blast hasn't allowed an opponent to score in double digits in 10 straight games, dating back to a 12-10 loss against the Milwaukee Wave on December 7, 2014. Last time out, the Maryland side defeated the Rochester Lancers 17-2 last Saturday at Baltimore Arena, earning a two-goal effort from FW Adriano Dos Santos.
Friday's match will be broadcast live on YouTube on the Knights' official page. Syracuse's coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EST with commentary by John Paul Chunga and Mike Kirmse. The game will be available shortly after its completion as on-demand content.
