Nashua N.H. - Despite a late-inning rally for the second straight night, the Brockton Rox fell to the Nashua Silver Knights, 3-2, in Game Two of the 2012 Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) semifinals at Holman Stadium on Monday night.
With the win, the first-seeded Silver Knights advance to the 2012 FCBL Championship, where they will face the second-seeded North Shore Navigators on Tuesday night.
After Nashua (2-0) jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single from Jon Minucci (Southern New Hampshire) that plated Rays Roman (Dakota State), the Silver Knights added two more runs in the second thanks to a two-run double from James Katsiroubas (UMass Lowell).
Brockton (0-2) finally scratched a run against Nashua starter Christopher Good (New Mexico) in the sixth inning when Norton's Sean Ryan (Wheaton) scored on a deep fly ball from Luis Gonzalez (Concordia) that was misplayed by the right fielder. The Rox soon tacked on another run in the eighth inning to pull within one after Tanner Reibenspies (San Diego State) stole third base and then came around to score on an error by the catcher.
With the Rox threatening late in the game for the second straight night, Nashua's Cole Warren (Rhode Island) shut the door on Brockton in the ninth to earn the save and seal the victory for the Silver Knights. Meanwhile, Good picked up the win (1-0) for the Silver Knights after six strong innings on the hill. The southpaw racked up six strikeouts while scattering just one unearned run on four hits.
On the other end, Cohasset's Brendan Doonan (Rhode Island) cruised through four frames of relief for Brockton, allowing just one hit and one walk along the way. Westwood's John Sheehan (William & Mary) followed suit in the eighth and ninth to keep the hosts off the scoreboard, conceding just one hit and striking out three in two innings of work.
Katsiroubas paced Nashua's offense with a 2-for-4 performance at the dish to go along with a pair of RBIs, while Roman went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.
Reibenspies went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and a run scored to highlight Brockton's night on offense. Ryan tallied a single, a run scored, and a pair of stolen
bases, while Joe Gallub (Concordia) finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two stolen bases as well.
Braintree's Patrick Delano (Vanderbilt) suffered the loss (0-1) for Brockton after allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks.
