COLUMBUS, GA (September 23, 2010) - The Columbus Lions of the Southern Indoor Football League are proud to announce the re-signing of quarterback and 2010 Offensive Player of the Year Chris McCoy (5'11 195, Navy) for the upcoming 2011 season.

After sitting third on the depth chart for much of the 2009 season, 2010 was a breakthrough year for McCoy as he earned SIFL's Offensive Player of the Year nod along with being listed on the All-SIFL First Team. He finished the season tops with the most passing TD's (41) while compiling the best passing percentage (105.7).

Chris took over the starting duties in Week 3 and led the Lions on improbable run that concluded with the franchise bringing home their first championship in a 68-13 victory over the defending champion Louisiana Swashbucklers. In that game, McCoy took home game MVP honors after completing 18 of 28 passes for 229 yards and five passing touchdowns.

"To bring McCoy's championship caliber level of quarterback play back to our team is huge boost for our club," says Columbus Lions Head Coach Jason Gibson. "Last season was just the tip of the iceberg for Chris as we will expect much more now that he has had a full season under his belt."

In other news, the club provided McCoy with some protection by re-signing offensive lineman Willie Pritchett (6'5 330, Clark-Atlanta). Pritchett joined the Lions late in the 2010 season providing some much needed protection for McCoy. It showed as the Columbus o-line did not allow a single sack in both playoff victories.

The defending champions will be holding their first tryout of the season on Saturday October 9th in Atlanta at Lakewood Stadium located at 70 Claire Dr. SW. For more information on the tryout, log on to www.columbuslions.net.
