Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas 51's erased an early 2-0 deficit and beat the Sidewinders 7-4 on Sunday afternoon at Cashman Field. The 51's won the series three games to one.
Jamie D'Antona's two run home run to right put Tucson ahead 2-0 in the top of the first but Vegas scored three times in the second, one in the third and twice in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.
Yusmeiro Petit took the loss for the Sidewinders as he allowed six runs on 11 hits in his five innings. Petit fell to 2-3 on the season.
The Sidewinders had a chance to rally in the eighth inning but left the bases loaded. Three straight singles by Jesus Merchan, Trent Oeltjen and Trot Nixon filled the bases but Vegas closer Brian Falkenborg was summoned from the bullpen and struck out Josh Whitesell and Emilio Bonifacio to end the threat.
Falkenborg worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his 10th save of the season.
Jamie D'Antona finished 2 for 5 to add to his PCL leading hit total. D'Antona now has 84 hits while Bonifacio has 82 after a 2 for 5 afternoon.
Robby Hammock went 0 for 5 with three strikeouts to end his hitting streak at 10.
The Sidewinders return home on Monday night to open a four game series with the Sacramento Rivercats. First pitch is at 7:00. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:50.
