Sidekicks Look To Make History, Snap San Diego's National Record 47-Game Winning Streak

DALLAS (Jan. 25, 2013) - The Dallas Sidekicks (9-2) will host the San Diego Sockers (10-0) for the first time this season at the Allen Event Center this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. The Sidekicks will attempt to break San Diego's undefeated record, which goes far past the 2012-13 season-the Sockers have won 47 successive matches, which is a record in United States professional sports.
Although this will be the first meeting of the revived Sidekicks and Sockers franchises, the rivalry between the original teams dates back to 1984. The two teams created several memorable moments in indoor soccer together, including the only 1-0 playoff game in the 35 year history of professional indoor soccer in 1989. The rivalry will be reborn Sunday night, as both teams have found success so far this season.
"Back when we used to play the Sockers there was always a feeling of mutual respect because we knew there was such quality on both sides," Sidekicks Head Coach Tatu said. "It is going to be a battle for sure. We will have to play our best game of the season to come out on top."
The Sidekicks currently sit at the top of the Central Division, and are especially effective at home where they have won five consecutive matches. The team is led in scoring by Franck Mbemba who has scored 17 goals in 10 games, including three hat tricks. Jamie Lovegrove sits just behind with a 10-game scoring streak that has produced 16 goals this season. Goaltender Sagu (8-1) dominates the PASL with a goals against average of 3.30 and save percentage of .794.
San Diego's top producers are Kraig Chiles, who leads the PASL with 39 goals and 50 points, as well as Brian Farber (17 goals, 34 points) and Aaron Susi (14 goals, 30 points. Goaltenders Chris Toth (4-0) and Riley Swift (5-0) have shared the load this season.
