Dallas Sidekicks News Release
The Dallas Sidekicks open their 19th season at Reunion Arena against the expansion Monterrey. This is the tenth time the Sidekicks have opened their season at home with a record of 8-2. They are currently on a five-game winning streak when opening their season at home.
The Sidekicks come off of a 9-27 season, tied for the worst in team history. Tatu returns as head coach and has added ten new players to the roster for this season. Dallas comes into the game after two wins during the MISL Preseason Classic. They defeated St. Louis 6-2 on September 26 and beat Cleveland 3-1 on September 27.
RADIO: All Sidekicks regular season games are on KSKY 660 AM as well as at www.dallassidekicks.com. All broadcasts begin fifteen minutes prior to listed kickoff and will last three hours. Pete Stein calls the action with Dev Reeves adding color. John Clemens, Robert Trammel and Shawn Matthews host the halftime and post-game shows.
SIDEKICKS ON TV: Dallas will have nine road games on KFWD Channel 52 this season, beginning November 22 at St. Louis. The television package also includes all Dallas Sidekicks' road playoff games for the 2004 Major Indoor Soccer League playoffs. Pete Stein will call the action and former Sidekick Dev Reeves will serve as the analyst. The Sidekicks last televised game was on KSTR 49 December 22, 2001 when the Sidekicks defeated the San Diego Sockers for the 2001 World Indoor Soccer League championship. The Sidekicks last televised regular season games during the 1997 season, the final year of the Continental Indoor Soccer League.

HEAD COACH TATU: Tatu is in his sixth season as the Head Coach of the Dallas Sidekicks. Tatu led the Sidekicks to the World Indoor Soccer League finals in each of his first four years as head coach, winning the 1998 and 2001 titles. In 1998, Tatu replaced Gordon Jago, who retired as head coach. He has a 63-53 (.543) regular season record, and 7-3 (.700) postseason record. On March 23, 2003, Tatu retired from playing 21 seasons of indoor soccer, 18 seasons with the Sidekicks. Tatu is near the top of the career list in several categories. He is second with 21 seasons played (Victor Nogueira of Milwaukee - 23), seventh with 633 games played (Michael King of Milwaukee - 650), second for goals with 857 (Hector Marinaro of Cleveland - 1201), second in assists with 728 (Zoran Karic of Cleveland - 824), second in points with 1585 (Marinaro - 1886), second in shots with 4396 (Marinaro - 4869), tied for second in game-winning goals with 77 (Marinaro - 99, Steve Zungul - 77), and first with 113 power play goals. He has been part of all four Sidekicks' championship teams, winning titles in 1987, 1993, 1998, and 2001. Tatu is a six-time MVP, 11-time scoring champion, 12-time all-star, and three-time championship series MVP. Tatu is the only person to earn Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards in the same season accomplishing this great achievement in 1998. He also holds Sidekicks franchise records for seasons - 18, games - 557, goals - 736, assists - 672, points - 1408, shots - 4182, power play goals - 98, game-winning goals - 68, and overtime goals - 7.
DAVID DOYLE: This is Doyle's 12th season with the Sidekicks, the 19th of his career. He played a total of 497 regular season games and accumulated 1002 points from 610 goals and 392 assists. Doyle is in the top-20 on the career list of almost every offensive category. He is tied for 11th with 18 seasons, eighth in goals with 610 (Michael King- 648), 16th in assists with 392 (Goran Hunjak of Kansas City - 437, Kim Roentved - 437), tenth in points with 1002 (Michael King- 1015), tied for third in power play goals with 84 (Steve Zungul - 89, Kia - 84), tied for 18th in shorthanded goals with 7, and fourth in game-winning goals with 65 (Tatu - 77, Zungul - 77). Doyle is near the top of the Sidekicks record book in several categories. He is fifth in games with 290 (Wes McLeod - 321), second in goals with 383 (Tatu - 733), third in assists with 282 (Tatu - 672, Kevin Smith - 299), second in points with 665 (Tatu - 1405), second in shots with 1964 (Tatu - 4178), fourth in blocks with 337 (Smith - 387), second in power play goals with 58 (Tatu - 97), second in game-winning goals with 42 (Tatu - 68), and tied for third in overtime goals with 4 (Mark Karpun - 5, Doc Lawson - 4). He has been selected to play in seven All-Star games. He was the WISL MVP in 1998, and has been named to the All-League First Team six times. In 2001, he was named the Dallas Sidekicks MVP by the Dallas All Sports Association. Since his acquisition in 1993, the Sidekicks have won Championships in 1993, 1998, and 2001.
SERIES HISTORY VS. MONTERREY: This is the first time the Sidekicks have faced this Monterrey franchise. This is the first of six meetings between these two teams. The Sidekicks will also close their season with the Fury on April 3 in Monterrey. Dallas went 15-13 (.536) against the Monterrey La Raza from 1993-97 & 1999-2000.

FACING A NEW CHALLENGE: The Sidekicks are 17-5 (.773) in their first meeting with an expansion team. The only other time the Sidekicks met an expansion team for their season opener was August 19, 2001 when they defeated the San Diego Sockers 6-5 in overtime at the American Airlines Center.
