Three Things You Need to Know
1.) Chipchura Leads Sundogs- The Arizona Sundogs (6-2-2) are off to their best start since the 2007-08 season when they went 7-2-1 to start the season and eventually went on to win the CHL's Ray Miron Presidents' Cup. The Sundogs swept the Denver Cutthroats this past week winning games on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday outscoring the expansion club 16-9 over the three victories. Forward Kyle Chipchura (an NHL contracted player with the Phoenix Coyotes that is currently a part of the lockout) was named the Oakley CHL Player of the Week after scoring two goals with six assists and a +7 plus/minus rating in the Sundogs three games. Chipchura leads all the CHL with a +11 rating and the Sundogs are in second place with 14 points (two behind the conference leading Allen Americans).
2.) Offense Clicking for Wichita- The Thunder may have had a tough stretch finding the back of the net during three games in late October and early November but aside from being shutout by Tim Boron and the Rapid City Rush on Saturday night, the Thunder have scored 22 goals in the four games around that shutout. Wichita has scored eight goals once this season and six goals three times. Wichita has four of the top seven point producers in the CHL with Greger Hanson, Chad Painchaud and Neil Trimm recording 15 points apiece and Matt Summers sitting with 14 points.
3.) Torrid Pace- Tulsa forward Michel Beausoleil has been scorching scoring goals in seven of the Oilers 12 games so far. Beausoleil leads the league with nine goals on the season, just one shy of being halfway to his 20 goal total from a year ago (64 games). The veteran has put up four goals with four assists and is a +8 in the Oilers last five games (team is 3-2-0 over that stretch). For the season, the Montreal native is a +10 and has been a plus player in nine of his team's games this year.
By the Numbers
8: The number of career CHL shutouts for Tulsa goalie Ian Keserich after last Friday's 1-0 blanking of the Fort Worth Brahmas. Keserich has six shutouts with the Oilers whom he has played with since the 2010-11 season. This season, the Cleveland, Ohio native has won four of his seven decisions.
One-Timers
-Allen continues to pace the Berry Conference thanks to their five straight wins and 8-1-0 record. The Americans end their current four-game road trip on Tuesday in Bloomington who is 6-3-0 on the season and 4-1 on home ice. The Blaze and Americans have the league's two best offenses with Bloomington averaging more than four and a half goals per game and Allen scoring 4.11 goals per game.
-Bloomington defenseman Jesse Dudas had his goal scoring streak end on Saturday after netting a score in six straight games (the longest by a CHL defenseman in more than 10 years). Dudas is second among all players with eight goals on the season and leads all defensemen with 14 points (8-6=14) - Allen's Brett Skinner also has 14 points (4-10=14).
-Maybe a change of scenery will matter for the Denver Cutthroats who play the Arizona Sundogs on Wednesday night in what will be the fourth straight game for Denver versus Arizona. Denver played three games in Arizona last week and lost them all. This time, the venue will be the Denver Coliseum where the Fish are 3-2-0 on the season.
-Quad City forward Mickey Lang has points in each of his last five games scoring four goals and three assists over that stretch. His most recent goal was a shorthanded score last Friday that tied the Flock's game versus Allen with just 15 second remaining in regulation. Lang has six goals and five assists on the season.
-The Fort Worth Brahmas had a season-high five goals on Friday night in their 5-4 win over Tulsa. The Brahmas have just 14 goals in their other eight games and are last in the CHL averaging 2.11 goals per game.
