Shortened Game Favor Rays, Shutout M's 6-0

August 1, 2012 - Appalachian League (ApL)
Pulaski Mariners News Release

Pulaski, VA- Despite a shortened night due to significant rainfall, Pulaski fell in their fourth straight game as they got shutout 6-0 against the Princeton Rays Wednesday night at Calfee Park.

The M's seemed unable to capitalize on opportune situations as they ended up stranding eight base runners through the first four innings of play. Only adding to the lack of hitting with runners in scoring position, Pulaski's defense committed three costly errors contributing to Princeton's six runs.

The Rays caught a break in the fourth when they loaded the bases with no outs on three consecutive singles. To the disappointment of the Mariners, the damage did not stop there as the next batter John Alexander hit a seemingly routine double-play ball to first baseman Gilmer Lampe only to have the ball ricochet off of his glove into right field resulting in two Princeton runners crossing the plate. The costly miscue opened the floodgates for the Rays, who scored three additional runs in the inning on another single, sacrifice bunt, and sacrifice fly.

The Mariners will play the second game of a three game home stand against the Rays tomorrow (8/2), 7p.m., at Historic Calfee Park. Bring the family out to support the team as we host "Kid's Night at Calfee" featuring a 40' inflatable slide, face painting, and all sorts of fun games!
