Shorebirds Lose First Half Finale, 4-3

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds (28-41) lost the final game of the first half of the season, 4-3, in ten innings on Sunday afternoon to the Kannapolis Intimidators (33-37) at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Kannapolis' Mark Haddow hit a two out single through the right side of the infield in the first inning to put the Intimidators on top 1-0.

The Intimidators took a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly RBI to center by Kevan Smith in the fifth inning.

After recording just one hit in the first five innings, the Shorebirds bats got going. In the sixth, Connor Narron pulled a double to the left field wall. Then, Wynston Sawyer rolled a double down the left field line to close the gap to 2-1.

Kannapolis increased the lead to 3-1 on back-to-back walks issued by Eric Beaulac to force in a run in the top of seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, Nicky Delmonico hit a two-run double down the right field line to tie the game at 3-3.

In extra innings, the Intimidators used a lead off double by Rangel Ravelo to plate the winning run. After a sacrifice bunt by Martin Medina, Garis Pena hit a sacrifice fly to center field to score pinch runner Michael Johnson.

Stew Brase earned the win for Kannapolis while Bryan Blough retired the Shorebirds in order in the tenth inning to pick up his fifth save.

Matt Bywater allowed just one hit over three innings, but was tagged with the loss.

The Shorebirds will begin the second half of the season on Thursday, June 21 on the road against Kannapolis.
