LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Lakewood BlueClaws wrapped up the first half of the season with a 6-1 win against the Hickory Crawdads, before 8,000 fans at FirstEnergy Park in Lakewood on Sunday afternoon.

Lakewood (26-43) struck first with a pair of runs against LHP Kevin Matthews (L, 1-1) and the Crawdads (36-33) in the bottom of the second inning. With two on and one away, LF Gauntlett Eldemire drove in C Bob Stumpo from second base with an RBI single, swinging Lakewood into the 1-0 lead. The BlueClaws doubled the early advantage with an RBI sacrifice bunt by 2B Alejandro Villalobos, squeezing DH Kyrell Hudson in from third later in the frame for the 2-0 advantage.

After Lakewood struck for a third run in the bottom of the third, the Crawdads got on the board in the top of the fourth inning against LHP Ethan Stewart (W, 3-6). With one away, RF Zach Cone crushed a triple to right-center field, before racing in from third on an RBI ground out by LF Jeremy Williams, cutting the deficit to 3-1.

However, the BlueClaws stretched the lead right back out in the bottom of the fourth against RHP Arlett Mavare. After Mavare struck out the first batter, Villalobos singled and SS Carlos Perdomo doubled, putting two runners in scoring position. RF Kelly Dugan then brought both men home with a two-run single to center field, lifting Lakewood into the 5-1 advantage.

A solo home run by Eldemire in the bottom of the eighth tacked on the final run for Lakewood, who finished the first half of the season with a 6-1 win.
