Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The BlueClaws finish the first half of the season with three consecutive wins over the Hickory Crawdads, including Sunday's 6-1 win.
Lakewood scored twice in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead and Hickory never got closer than two runs the rest of the way en route to victory.
Starting pitcher Ethan Stewart tossed six innings of one-run, three-hit ball for his third consecutive victory. Stewart was 0-6 in his first ten starts of the season, but is now 3-6 on the season with a 3.76 ERA.
The BlueClaws hit the All-Star break with a record of 26-43 overall and were able to finish the first half with a .500 record at home (18-18). The win gives the BlueClaws their first three-game winning streak since May 19-23 when they won four consecutive ballgames.
It was the fourth consecutive sellout crowd of 8,000 for Lakewood which marked the first time since August 2002 that the BlueClaws have had 8,000 fans in four consecutive home games at FirstEnergy Park.
The BlueClaws will not play again until Thursday at Hagerstown when the BlueClaws kick-off the second half of the season at Municipal Stadium against the Suns. First pitch for that game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with the BlueClaws Beat pre-game show starting at 6:50 p.m.
